Breaking bad

Tierra del FUEGO, the land of welders.

On one of the multiple flights to Ushuaia a sharp object had punctured my bike box. It happened to completely break my Rohloff specific rotor. Three of the arms was were broken and the whole thing was badly bent. I was confident that I would get a new one from another biketourer, about to finish ones trip in Ushuaia. After 6 weeks I gave up. Cycling season was starting to be over and the numbers of cyclist had decreased significantly. Additionally, basically no one tours with system similar to main. Finding this very specific component started to look impossible. Therefore I went for the plan B, fixing it by myself.

I welded it back together with a colleague from the bakery in the company workshop. An hour after the rotor was fixed and installed back on the bike, what I had been waiting for for six weeks happened. A bike tourer rolled in with this very same component and was happy to sell it to me. If this was a test of my percaverance, I failed by a couple of hours.
